all natural, american, unique, colorful, versatile, beautiful...
Sunstone is a rare gemstone that comes in a magnificent array of colors. While the most often seen color is clear, pink, or salmon, it is also found in deep reds, greens, and even bi or tri-colored together in one stone. The stone can be a color-shift stone, which essentially means that it can change colors depending on the light and angle of the stone. It also tends to blend depending on what colors you are wearing it with, which makes it very versatile in a piece of jewelry. Very cool! Or very hot, whichever you prefer. Sunstone is a labradorite that is best known for its particles of pure copper known as schiller, which impart a beautiful shimmer effect inside the stone. As Rain Man would say “Very shiny, very sparkly.” Sunstone is one of the few gemstones that is all natural with no enhancement such as heat treating, irradiation, or oiling. In other words, it is not lab created or tampered with in any way—what you get is exactly as the stone exists in nature, simply beautiful. Sunstone looks good against all different skin tones, from the fairest maiden to Miss Hawaiian tropic. Sunstone is also the state gemstone for Oregon (ironic, huh?.....what with all the rain).
Oregon Sunstone carries a special place in our hearts, since a deposit of the gemstone was founded by my late father-in-law many years ago, and he loved it so much he turned it into his business. The Sunstone jewelry items available on this site have been produced from the rough material directly from our family mine in central Oregon.
We hope you enjoy wearing it! You can be confident that your Sunstone item will truly be one of a kind!
